Eugenics in Govt – Forced Sterilization of Women in Custody
A web friend sent me this link yesterday, and suggested it as a post.
ICE whistleblower. I thought yeah that is horrible and she should post it. She asked me to instead. I hesitated.
Till early this AM, I saw a thread that put it into more than a status or frission in my soul. And I have the larger picture now.
ACLU confirmed the ICE story.
So did Vice
There is a long history in the US, Canada (and possibly other countries too) of sterilizing those in their care, esp the women. Those who are an affront to the patriarchical, supremacist view of who should in their worldview be having children. A long history that is supposedly past and now illegal
That history is one of
eugenics
the study of how to arrange reproduction within a human population to increase the occurrence of heritable characteristics regarded as desirable.
The govt and church/temples deciding what we do with our bodies and fertility choices is a common problem we have faced over and over.
With issues like castration, genital mutilation and abortion.
Then medicine and science got involved and now we also have surrogates and fertility mgmt/procedures. (The world is overpopulated and kids starve to death everyday, but we need more, by any means necessary? Or just the ones wanted by the rulers?)
But this particular battle is meant to be understood as finished. Sterilization is considered to be torture and genocide. It is supposed to be illegal to remove someone’s bodily and fertility control from them, even if they are in custody. So why is ICE doing it now?

UN organizations call for an end to forced, coercive and involuntary sterilization
(WHO), OHCHR, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF and UN Women, have issued a statement on “Eliminating forced, coercive and otherwise involuntary sterilization”. It reaffirms that sterilization as a method of contraception and family planning should be available, accessible to all, of good quality and free from discrimination, coercion and violence.

So if that is the position by world health and human rights agencies (which it is indeed), then why is ICE using this on detained women?
Answer – Because they can.
